PERMANENT PROJECTS | RELOCATION OF FAMILIES | INCENTIVIZED PROJECTS

Relocation of Families

These are the two family-relocation projects undertaken by Eneva in the state of Maranhão:

Vila Nova Canaã

In 2008 and 2009 Eneva led the Vila Madureira resettlement program, a community of 95 families that lived on the edge of a landfill, in the industrial heartland of São Luis, in Maranhão. The families lived in mud brick houses with no basic sanitation nor electrical energy.

This project inspired that of Vila Nova Canaã, in Paço do Lumiar (MA), and enjoyed the active participation of the local community and public organs such as Ibama, the Secretary of the Environment of the state of Maranhão, and the Public Prosecution Service. The location, chosen by the community itself, was equipped with a school, health clinic, churches, police station and headquarters for the Residents Association. The houses were handed over already furnished and with drinking water and basic sanitation already fitted.

Together with the community, the company created an agricultural development project as an alternative source of income for these families. – The HortCanãa Agricultural Nucleus, guaranteeing a source of income for the families and strengthening family farming in the region.

Nova Demanda

In 2016, Eneva also led the Demanda Community Resettlement Program involving 65 families from the middle of Maranhão state. The project, which eventually created the Nova Demanda Community, was extremely participative and preserved the local ties with relatives and neighbors.

A school, health clinic, two churches, a community square with an area for playing football were constructed in at the location. Each family received a furnished house and a plot of land measuring about 3 hectares to develop farming activities.
