The Sergipe Port Thermoelectric Plant is located in Barra dos Coqueiros, a municipality in the Metropolitan area of Aracaju (SE). The plant has a generating capacity of 1.6GW and produces enough energy to cover 15% of the energy requirements of the Northeast region.
The Sergipe Port Thermoelectric Plant I runs on natural gas and produces energy in a combined cycle of gas and steam. The natural gas used arrives at the unit in the form of liquified natural gas (LNG) and is then regasified at the storage and regasification unit. Following this process, the gas is used to generate energy safely and competitively for the whole country

Natural Gas Floating Storage and Regasification Unit
Storage Capacity: 170,000 m³/day
Regasification Capacity: 21,000 m³/day
Located in open ocean, about 6.5 kilometres off the coast, the marine installation is made-up of the ship Golar Nanook – a natural gas Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU). The FSRU has a storage capacity of 170,000 m2 of gas and is capable of regasifying up to 21,000,000 m2 per day, with the chance of trading this gas in the integrated network. The gas that supplies the natural gas Floating Storage and Regasification Unit via gas carriers (tanker ships that transport natural gas). While in the storage and regasification unit, the gas is regasified and transported through a gas pipeline to the thermoelectric unit for the generation of energy.
