Energy Security
As renewable energy grows, our thermal plants play an increasingly critical role in maintaining Brazil’s energy security. They help stabilize the National Interconnected System (SIN), particularly in the late afternoon when electricity demand peaks and solar generation drops sharply.
Because it emits less carbon than other fossil fuels and allows flexible delivery, natural gas supports grid stability, especially as intermittent sources like solar and wind expand their share in the energy mix.
In 2024, Eneva more than doubled its power generation while reducing the carbon intensity of its operations by 20%, without increasing natural gas consumption. This achievement was made possible through the adoption of combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology, which reuses heat from gas combustion to generate additional electricity.
